UCI Mountain Bike World Cup
The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup takes to Nevis Range…
If you’re a mountain biking fan, you’ll love this. Between the 2nd and 4th of June, the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup will be held at Fort William, just a 40-minute drive from our front door.
It’s been a staple part of the Mountain Bike Cup series since 2002, and the courses there have won awards over the years for being one of the best events on the World Cup tour.
4X Pro Tour
This race will see riders battle it down the track four at a time, with the first two from each race making it through to the next round. The competition lasts all day with only the fastest making it through each round, so you’ll have plenty of time to find your favourite spot for the evening final.
The custom-built course has loads of testing features and ends in the carpark. For this race, the carpark is one of the best viewing spots, and from there it’s easy to climb up the spectator track if you’d like to be closer to the action.
Now it’s the main event – the downhill race. You’ll see competitors take to the orange “extreme” track, down the face of Aonach Mor. Spectators can take the gondola to the top of the track and watch riders shred it down below. It’s a 2.8km course which the best bikers can tackle in under five minutes.
There’s plenty for spectators too, with loads of food and drink onsite. The Pinemarten café at the base station and the Snowgoose restaurant at the top of the gondola will be open throughout the competitions. If you can manage to get yourself a seat on the balcony of the Snowgoose, it’s one of the best spots to watch the downhill riders set off.
